    Choreographic Space

    Get PDF
This thesis, Choreographic Space, and accompanying exhibit is an arrangement of contemporary work being done in the cross-over between movement, drawing, sound and architecture. The thesis develops a lineage of choreographic thinking through a fissure in the classification of a dance as necessarily the body in motion. Through the link of the “choreographic object,” Choreographic Space asks how an interdisciplinary exploration of the principles of movement can reveal novel ways to think about the body in space

Guiding Students Through Choppy Creative Waters: Collaborative Pedagogy to Empower Ethical Creators

    Get PDF
With the rise of ‘multimodality’, students are increasingly creating digital projects that require an understanding of copyright that includes Creative Commons, to both search for and appropriately remix the original work of others. In this session, learn how two librarians collaboratively developed their student-centered pedagogy to apply active-learning strategies in the classroom for these special creative copyright sessions. In their approach, the librarians engaged the student-as-producer to make creative copyright more accessible and applicable to their projects. These instructional interventions build on the traditional lecture-style session on Copyright Law to support non-traditional projects

Using Open Educational Resources to Empower Student Creators

As students are asked to complete multimodal assignments in their higher education courses, librarians can guide students to the use of open educational resources (OER), as many librarians are already teaching students about copyright and how to respect intellectual property rights. Two instructional librarians designed a one-shot lesson for first-year composition students around the use of open resources, where the goal of instruction was for students to be empowered with their creative rights and to use the open resources available to them as creators

Technology Equipment Loan Programs: Impact, Modifications, and Trends

Clemson University Libraries began loaning technology equipment in 2010 and the program has since grown to constitute 21% of all library loans. This session provided an overview of technology loan programs in South Carolina and at Clemson’s peer institutions, including a comparison of logistics and equipment types, and challenges including funding and sustainability. It also examined the institutional impact of the program at Clemson. Additionally, the session covered modifications made to the technology equipment program during the COVID-19 pandemic and identified current trends and expected future directions of the program

Managing Occupancy through Tech Solutions during COVID-19 at Clemson University

This project briefing detailed three occupancy-management technologies, and their accompanying policies and procedures, that were deployed by Clemson Libraries to address the challenges of operating a physical library during the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020. Clemson’s main library, Cooper Library, tracked occupancy through a combination of novel and existing solutions: 1) a home-grown access management system that uses institutional IDs, 2) a real-time entry/exit automatic counter, 3) seat and appointment booking through Springshare. The three-pronged approach allowed for immediate control and oversight, while providing safe and equitable access to the Clemson University community. Each project required unique policy and procedure planning. Of particular note is the collaboration with university central IT to create and customize the access management system, which was also deployed in campus dining halls, bookstore, fitness centers, and showcased on the university’s mobile app. The project enhanced institutional interdisciplinary partnerships and solidified a long-term collaborative network. Additionally, Clemson’s customization of Springshare’s seat booking system provided a unique vantage point into the decision-making process and the adoption of multiple systems for discrete needs, though it required extensive research and customization. The project briefing also covered the implications that the decisions we made could affect future operations of our organization

Learn how deep collaboration can strengthen your instructional practices when engaging students with technology-centered creative projects. With the rise of ‘multimodality’, students are increasingly creating digital projects that require an understanding of copyright that includes Creative Commons, to both search for and appropriately remix the original work of others. Collaboration, in the form of joint design, teaching and assessment, bridges the expertise of a technology librarian and instruction librarian to help students become ethical users of digital and creative content. The use of active learning components within the lesson design and delivery replaces the traditional lecture-style session on Copyright Law
